DE SEDE POINTS THE WAY FORWARD

SENSE AND SENSITIVITY IN OUR NEW ORIENTATION

Klingnau/ Switzerland, January 2010

1965 saw the birth of a new seating philosophy in Switzerland: with profound devotion to detail and meticulous attention to the quality of its leather work, de Sede began manufacturing furniture of exquisite craftsmanship. Articles of outstanding elegance that were both trendsetting and timeless.

Building on this concept and on these values, we have reoriented the traditional de Sede brand to make it even more progressive, more contemporary and more communicative. A philosophy and a special style that are reflected in our new products and in our entire new brand identity.

The major landmarks are new models from Philippe Bestenheider, re-editions of works by Robert Haussmann and creations from the de Sede Design-Team.

The "making of" these new designs is documented in our own publication: de Sede’s "Nouvelle 1°" magazine, developed and designed in collaboration with art director Mike Meiré and his Meiré und Meiré agency. Abundantly illustrated, it contains in-depth reports on the new collection, the story behind its development, the de Sede "Leather Lab" in Klingnau and a wealth of other interesting information.

And on the same subject: during the “Passagen” interior design week parallel to IMM Cologne 2010, the legendary de Sede dS-600 sofa from Ueli Berger, Eleonore Peduzzi-Riva, Heinz Ulrich, Klaus Vogt is being displayed at the Meiré und Meiré Factory in Köln-Ehrenfeld. This “snake” consisting of 52 individual elements offers unlimited potential for variations on the theme of seating tailored to every environment. So if you happen to be in the neighbourhood: drop in and try it out for size!

You will soon be able to discover more about the new world of de Sede – at the “Salone Internazionale del Mobile” in Milan from 14 to 19 April 2010.

EXCITING NEW DESIGNS AND RE-EDITIONS OF OUTSTANDING CLASSICS

New designs from Philippe Bestenheider, re-editions of works by Robert Haussmann and further exciting creations by the de Sede Design-Team are the concrete embodiment of de Sede’s reorientation. Tradition is being redefined!

Skilled Swiss craftsmanship, tactile adventure, delight in precision and intelligent functions are just as much a part of the new world of de Sede as are uncompromising elegance, perfect proportions and exquisite lines. And everything fashioned in peerless, hand-crafted Swiss quality.

Overview of the new de Sede models:

dS-80

This daybed is a logical and faithful re-design of the celebrated de Sede classic and is every bit as fascinating today as it was back in the Seventies. Its extravagant patchwork covering together with back cushioning that can be positioned as required caused a sensation more than 30 years ago. The model has been only slightly altered to fit the spirit of the new collection. The dS-80 is available as both a recliner and small lounge sofa.

dS-315

The lines of this easy chair are determined by a hand-sewn seam 26 metres in length. Like a crustacean’s shell, the enveloping outer skin reveals a soft inner life that affords a maximum of comfort – plus a sense of snug security. A marriage of Swiss craftsmanship and progressive elegance. A new design that embodies both the tradition and future orientation of de Sede in a vivid and exciting manner.

dS-9045

Fresh, uncompromising and elegant. A modular side table in aluminium that can be used as a stand-alone model or in combination. The table is available in three colours: natural, bronze, brown.

RH-304/RH-305

A chair that has lost none of its elegance and style since it was created in the 1950s. This re-edition of the de Sede icon has a somewhat slimmer upholstered surface, its seat height has been modified slightly and its frame adapted to meet the demands of modern technology. There is a version with armrests available, too. Otherwise, this Swiss classic remains unchanged.

Design: Robert Haussmann

dS-9055

The appeal of this table rests in its devotion to detail and eye-catching elegance. The oval tubular steel frame and individually selectable leather edging – a specialty of our skilled craftsmen - make the dS-9055 the perfect complement to the iconic de Sede rh-304/305 chairs by Robert Haussmann. The table is available in three shapes: rectangular, ellipsoid and round and in a choice of oak, cherry wood and American walnut.
